Johannes was one of four professors awarded a Thomas H. Osgood Excellence in Teaching Award by the MSU Department of Physics and Astronomy in 2018. These awards are given each year to one or more non-tenured faculty members and one or more tenured faculty members, for excellence in teaching undergraduate physics & astronomy students. This year's other recipients were Jaideep Taggart Singh, Heiko Hergert and Morten Hjorth-Jensen. Congrats to all of this year's awardees!

The awards are named after Dr. Thomas H. Osgood, former Professor and Chair (1941-50) of the MSU Physics Department. Professor Osgood was also Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences (before its division into separate colleges) and Dean of the Graduate School from 1950-59. Additionally, Professor Osgood held the post of Scientific Attache at the US Embassy in London.
